We Found You

Squinty eyes peeking above your sly smile
“Are they laughing? Did they see me?” You pose
Head torqued, a squeak spurts out, grinning you spin
Ah-huh-huh-huh, your goofy guffaw goes
Oh sweet boy, we found you, found you again!

Notes

I wrote this poem about E at age one. As long as he’s been laughing, he’s had this goofy laugh that’s been deeply joyful for me — I wanted to capture that somehow. Lately, peek-a-boo has become the most reliabe way to get a good chuckle out of him, so it’s been happening a lot!

I found a beautiful dual meaning as I wrote the poem thinking of his unique arrival to our family, him wanting to be found, and our finding him. 💜 I love you sweet boy.
